Permanent watering restrictions narrowly approved by the Wichita City Council are set to go into effect September 15.
If your address ends in an odd number, you'll water your lawn on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, with even number addresses allowed to water on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. No lawn watering will be allowed on Mondays or any day between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Council member Becky Tuttle said water is Wichita's most important resource and that she doesn't want to see the water situation get any worse than it has been in the past year.
This new ordinance will serve as a permanent baseline for water conservation, unless the city is in Stage 2 drought restrictions or higher.
This new ordinance also affects its wholesale water customers, like Bel Aire and Derby. Private well users are exempt. The city says the new plan should save 900 million to 1.35 billion gallons of water per year.
