For the first time ever, six cape twig snakes were hatched at the Sedgwick County Zoo.
The snakes are small in size, only the size of a thin straw, but they are venomous. They resemble tree branches and will often mimic the movement of branches swaying in the wind.
Two adult cape twig snakes are visible in the Amphibian & Reptile building at the zoo, but the hatchlings will remain behind the scenes while they grow.
The snakes are native to southern Africa and have a lifespan of 8-12 years.
