A Memorial Day observance will be held Monday at Veterans Memorial Park in Wichita.

The program begins promptly at 11:00 a.m. Monday morning near the flag pavilion, with the McConnell Honor Guard presenting the colors.

John Offerman, current chairman of the park, himself a veteran, will offer brief remarks on the significance of Memorial Day.  "It will be a recollection of how we got started, in terms of Memorial Day.  The history behind it.  What is it like today, and what can we do to keep this holiday significant for our future generations." Offerman said.

After the speaker's remarks, the Marine Corps League Rifle Detail will fire a three volley rifle salute followed by the playing of Taps to conclude the ceremony.

"If people would like to tour the park themselves afterwards, they're certainly welcome," Offerman said.  Veterans in attendance will also be recognized, as well as any V.I.P.'s who are also attending.

You're invited to attend the Memorial Day observance to be held Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Wichita which is scheduled to last under an hour.  Seating is limited, you're encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
