A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting early Tuesday in the northeast part of Wichita.
It happened around 1:00 a.m. in the 2300 block of N. Woodlawn.
A caller to 911 dispatchers reported a disturbance in an apartment unit. Police officers knocked on the door of the apartment, identifying themselves; according to police, a man inside responded by threatening to retrieve a gun.
Officers retreated from the doorway; police say the man exited the apartment with a gun pointed at an officer. Officers then discharged their firearms, shooting the man, who later was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Another man who was in the apartment at the time of the shooting was taken into custody. The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting the investigation into the officer-involved fatal shooting.
