The Wichita City Council held their third hearing Tuesday on the city's proposed budget for next year.

The city says while the budget is balanced through 2027, a nearly $4 million shortfall looms in 2028.

Celeste Racette, founder of Save Century II and a former bank examiner and fraud investigator, said the city should maintain the parks they have before funding new ones.

The city's proposed budget totals $776 million and will be adopted next Tuesday.

The council also approved the creation of a common consumption area in Delano.

Starting September 5, you'll be able to carry alcoholic drinks from participating businesses in the area. The CCA will include portions of Delano bounded by Seneca Street to the west, McLean Boulevard on the east, Douglas Avenue to the north and Maple Street on the south.

If you visit a business that participates in the CCA, you'll receive an approved container to carry within the area. Consumption will be allowed on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
