Union Pacific Railroad provided updates Saturday at an open house meeting, about long-standing water contamination at 29th and Grove in north Wichita.

The meeting at the Atwater Neighborhood Resource Center discussed the company’s remediation plans, which includes the expansion of groundwater extraction systems to treat the chemicals discovered in the area’s soil and groundwater back in the 1990s.

Union Pacific said it’s working closely with the KDHE, the City of Wichita, and Sedgwick County. Residents in the area can sign up for free indoor air testing through KDHE.
