The Wichita Board of Education approved boundary changes for two area high schools beginning with the next school year.

The board heard recommendations intended to ease the overcrowding at Wichita's Southeast High, near Pawnee and 127th.  The changes will allow some students to attend school at Wichita Heights High School near 53rd N. and Hillside, beginning with the 2023-24 school year.

The board approved the recommendations.

Students who already attend southeast will not have to transfer. However, incoming freshmen for next school year, and moving forward, must attend Heights. Board members called this a short-term solution to overcrowding and they hope to have a permanent solution in place by the 2024-25 school year.
