Sedgwick County Commissioners have voted again to extend their pause on data center applications.
The latest extension will keep the interim development control in place for a little over 90 days, until September 11.
Commissioners agreed that a decision on the issue needs to be made but not before the county completes their research and due diligence.
Commissioner Pete Meitzner says ultimately the facts surrounding the issue will allow them to make their final decision.
On January 14, the board imposed their first pause, which was set to expire on April 17. On March 4, they extended the pause to June 11.
Wednesday’s meeting also saw Sedgwick County Commissioners voting unanimously to support funding of a wellness facility for city and county first responders.
The Pinnacle Wellness Facility, near 3rd and Broadway, should open in 2027, providing therapy, rehab, fitness, training and other services.
Chairman Jeff Blubaugh commended the Sheriff and the Wichita Metro Crime commission for getting the project over the finish line.
The Wichita City Council approved their part of the agreement on Tuesday. The city and the county will each contribute $94 thousand annually to cover the operating budget.
