In a press conference Friday, Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan asked for the community's help to curb violent crime.

This comes after Police responded to four shootings in roughly 24 hours last Saturday and Sunday, including a deadly shooting near Kellogg and Dugan that marked the city’s eighth homicide. Then Friday morning, a woman was left in extremely critical condition after she was shot in a domestic-related incident at an apartment complex on the city's northeast side.

Prior to last week, Wichita was seeing an overall improvement from last year when comparing the number of gun-crime victims.

Police have made arrests in connection with the recent shootings, but those suspects weren’t known offenders to police.

Chief Sullivan reported 68 firearms have been recovered so far in 2026.
