Police announced the arrest of a Wichita man who was involved in a shooting at a funeral Friday afternoon.
It happened around 2:00 p.m. near 11th and Oliver at Life Center Church.
Police arrived to a chaotic scene and more than 50 people running in different directions. They found 18-year-old Demetrius Carter of Wichita with a gunshot wound to his right forearm.
Police say that Carter attempted to get into the funeral services but was turned away by the family of the deceased. According to multiple witnesses, Carter pulled out a handgun and shot at the crowd of people by the front of the church. Other suspects from the crowd returned fire at Carter, who was shot one time in his right forearm. He was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released.
Police say another person suffered a medical incident.
Police say several vehicles and residences around and in front of the church's parking lot were hit with gunfire. Officers also recovered several firearms from the scene. During their investigation, detectives were able to identify the other suspects involved in the shooting and are actively working on locating them.
