
At Wichita East High School, a student, 16, was arrested Friday, after police say he brought a gun to school.

A school resource officer was notified that a student was possibly in possession of a firearm on campus. Staff members searched the student and found a handgun in his possession. The student was booked into the Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center on suspicion of possession of a firearm by a juvenile and possession of a firearm on school grounds.
Also Friday police responded to South High to the report of a fight. It was learned that it began after a student threw down a number of firecracker "poppers." in the hallway, and another student yelled "gun".
This follows several disturbances this week at West High, Heights, and Southeast. Two students were arrested and two additional guns were seized at both West and Heights. Pepper spray was used by staff to break up a disturbance Wednesday at Southeast.
On Thursday, another student was arrested for outstanding warrants after officers responded to help break up a number of fights that spilled outside the school.
