Due to the potential for wildfires in Kansas, a state of disaster emergency has been declared. The emergency proclamation was issued Thursday.

Weather forecasts call for warmer conditions, strong winds and low relative humidities, which can foster high fire weather conditions, especially in the central and western parts of the state, through the middle of next week. Officials in Topeka said that the declaration makes resources ready to provide quick assistance if needed.
