A proposed major multi-sport athletic district could come to northeast Wichita.
The project at K-96 and Greenwich, behind Academy Sports, could be approved by the city council at their December 9 meeting.
One of the highlights of the proposed $191 million district would bring a brand-new facility for the Wichita State tennis teams, including 12 outdoor courts and 6 climate-controlled courts.
Marc Abbott, from the Polsinelli Law firm which represents the developers, says this project would be huge for Wichita State athletics.
The district would also include a synthetic ice-skating surface, indoor golf, a surfing venue, an interactive baseball facility, go-kart racing and a 150-unit resort hotel.
There's no word on how soon the project might start, if approved by the council. It would be funded by STAR bonds and private investments.
