A Wichita woman was killed after a car hit her bicycle on Labor Day; it happened at about 9:00 p.m. Monday in the 2900 block of S. Oliver, near New Jersey Drive, not far from Planeview Park.
Arriving police found 56-year-old Sue Towles unconscious and not breathing; she was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
Police investigators say the victim was riding her bicycle south-bound on Oliver in the curb lane when she was struck by a south-bound Pontiac Bonneville driven by a 58-year-old man from Wichita.
The driver of the car remained on the scene and has cooperated with authorities.
This is the 23rd fatal crash worked by the Wichita police department this year, an average of about three per month.
