At Wednesday's Board of Commissioners meeting, Sedgwick County adopted their safety slogan for 2021.
The county held a contest from November 19 to December 14, and received 158 entries from its employees, representing almost every department in the county.
A special panel narrowed the final list to 11 and then ultimately decided on the winner: "In 2021, Safety is Number 1" from Israel Machado in Emergency Medical Services.
Mr. Machado, who says he hopes for brighter days ahead, received a framed copy of the poster, along with a small gift basket filled with safety items including a vehicle emergency kit and a Sedgwick County face mask.
In other county business, the board approved slight boundary changes to the Aerospace Industrial District of Sedgwick County. That's the area surrounding Spirit AeroSystems in south Wichita.
The county approved a $178,252 grant from the Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, which will fund a comprehensive operations and technology feasibility study. The grant requires a 20 percent match from the county, which brings the total to over $222 thousand.
Finally, the board unanimously approved creating a citizens advisory board in county's second district.
