Sedgwick County Commissioners approved their 2027 operating budget totaling just over $624 million, and 5-year capital improvement program of roughly $71 million.
While assessed valuation increased by 7.46 percent, the county will capture just 4.2 percent of that growth, rejecting around $7.5 million in spending as recommended by department heads. That will keep the mill levy flat at 26.842 mills.
Commissioners approved a large commitment to EMS, including more staffing and equipment.
The approved budget includes several adjustments, including $740 thousand previously earmarked for the Northwest Bypass project. The transfer will instead improve safety at dangerous intersections in the unincorporated areas of the county.
The CIP will cover improvement projects for buildings, bridges, roads and drainage structures.
