Sedgwick County will apply for a federal Department of Justice grant.
The deadline to apply for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance grant is this Friday.
If awarded, the county and the city of Wichita will split the $407 thousand award evenly. The county plans to use the funding to support the Sheriff's office, Corrections, the DA's office and the Regional Forensic Science Center. It would replace outdated equipment, provide crucial services for crimes to be adjudicated and increase operational efficiency and enforcement effectiveness.
