Sedgwick County will pay $25 thousand in earnest money as part of a real estate purchase agreement for a potential new home for county administration. The site is the former Murfin Building at 250 N. Water in downtown Wichita.

The county has 120 days to perform a thorough building inspection. If they move forward, another $475 thousand will be due. The payments would be applied to the $7.75 million purchase price.

Assistant County Manager Tania Cole said if they decide not to purchase, they will have other options, which include new construction or renewing their lease at the downtown Ruffin Building, where they have been for just over a year. The county has less than 2 years left on that agreement.

Administration offices moved out of the Sedgwick County Courthouse in early 2022 to make way for expanded courtroom space.
