At Wednesday's Sedgwick County Commission meeting, the county's 2026 recommended budget was presented.

Lorien Showalter Arie, Sedgwick County Budget Director, provided the main details. The recommended budget is $593,553,400, supported by a property tax amount of $210,524,468, with a mill levy rate of 27.881 mills. That is a decrease of .82 mills from the 2025 budget.

The budget would add 20 additional positions for 911, while also decreasing crime prevention funds and cultural arts by $560 thousand. It would also cut funding to KTPS, to air commission meetings, by $80 thousand.

Public hearings will be held on July 30 at 6pm and finally on August 20, when the budget is adopted.

The County intends to exceed the revenue neutral rate, which is 26.427 mills.
