A semi overturned in northwest Wichita, prompting a hazmat situation.
The crash happened around 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning at the K-96/I-235 junction, and prompted a shelter-in-place advisory for area residents. The tanker overturned while turning from Meridian onto Northbound I-235.
The driver was able to get out safely and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Officials said the tanker was hauling various gasoline mixtures, which began leaking following the accident.
The shelter in place alert was lifted during the afternoon, and it appears very little fuel leaked out. But an exact number of how much was lost from the 7,500-gallon tanker has not been determined.
