The Kansas Highway Patrol has confirmed that three sheriff's deputies have been injured in a shooting in Cowley County; the KHP also says a female suspect has died.

It happened around U.S. Highway 77 and 122nd Road, about five miles north of Winfield.
All three of the injured deputies were transported to Wichita hospitals.
The deputies were responding to the report of a suspicious vehicle. When they arrived, gunfire was exchanged. The three deputies were hit, and the one person in the vehicle was dead. The sheriff requested assistance from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Residents have been asked to avoid the area.
