Three teens are in custody following a shooting at Towne East Square that left two other teens critically injured.

It happened just after 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon outside of the Scheels store in the parking lot.  The mall was placed on a brief lockdown following the shooting.

The aledge shooter was detained by an off duty officer from another jurisdiction.  The other two suspects were arrested on scene by Wichita officers as they arrived.

Two juveniles ages 15 and 17, were taken to a local hospital with critical injuries.

Three suspects were arrested: Two seventeen-year old’s and one sixteen-year-old.

“This is another example of teens, with a high-powered weapon, making very poor choices and as tragic as this is, we have two young people in the hospital. It could have been so much worse,” says Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan. “So, we’re grateful for the off-duty officer and the very quick response of the Wichita Police Department, so this did not result in further tragedy.”

Wichita Police are still investigating what led up to the shooting.
