Sedgwick County Commissioners have approved a zoning change that will now allow for short-term rental properties in the unincorporated areas of the county.

These rentals will only be permitted in residential dwelling units and accessory apartments. They will not be permitted in recreational vehicles.

An owner, operator or property manager must be designated, and that person must live within 30 miles of the property. They must be available at all times and must post their contact information in an accessible location at the rental property.

No more than 20 adults can stay at the property at one time, but the owner could apply for a permit to allow more. The property will be subject to inspection and must have trash service.

If a property is approved, the license must be renewed every 5 years.

The city of Wichita approved similar changes in rental properties in September 2023.
