Police: Suspect arrested after shooting at cars in west Wichita

A man was arrested, suspected of firing shots at cars in the area of Central and I-235. It happened just before 2:00 a.m. Friday morning.

Callers to 911 reported gunshots and observed a man walking along the median of the highway discharging a firearm.

At the same time, officers were sent to an accident scene near 1900 N Westdale, where they discovered a Gray Jeep Grand Cherokee involved in a single-vehicle collision, abandoned at the scene.

Arriving officers arrested a man, 20, in the 1800 block of N I-235, matching the description of the suspected shooter. The man was taken into custody without resistance.

The investigation revealed him as the registered owner of the abandoned vehicle. Law enforcement officers recovered a firearm and multiple spent cartridge casings.

Three people reported their vehicle were targets of gunfire during the incident. They were identified as a man, 28, another man, 18, and a woman, 56. They were unrelated to each other as well as the suspect. There were no reported injuries.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of three counts of Aggravated Assault, three counts of Criminal Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle, and one count of Possession of Marijuana.

Formal charges are pending.
