After a month-and-a-half, suspect arrested for a woman's murder at her home in NW Wichita

Police have arrested an 18-year-old man from Wichita in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred six weeks ago in the 2300 block of N. Mascot (west of 22nd & Arkansas).

The suspect was booked into the Sedgwick County jail on one count of felony murder, discharge into an occupied dwelling, and aggravated battery.

At about 11:00 p.m. on November 6th, arriving police officers found two victims: a 48-year-old woman, identified as Deanna Garcia, and a 49-year-old man.

The male victim reported hearing several gunshots outside their residence as they were preparing for bed. He sustained a gunshot wound to his lower left leg and was hospitalized; he has since been released.

Garcia sustained critical injuries from a gunshot wound to her upper body. She was transported to a hospital, and pronounced deceased at 11:54 p.m. by medical staff.
