The Wichita City Council approved a variety of projects at their Tuesday meeting, including safety upgrades to Naftzger Park in the downtown area.
The $325 thousand project will install crash rated bollards along Douglas and St. Francis, similar to those in front of City Hall and around Intrust Bank Arena. The city says the project should be completed prior to NCAA Men's basketball tournament games in March.
The council also approved the selection of four firms who will begin design work on upcoming road projects around town. Two of those include 13th Street North west of Webb near Wichita Collegiate School and traffic signalization at 34th Street North and Ridge Road. The four projects will be returned separately to the council at a future date for approval of their design concepts, a final design agreement and final budget approval.
The council also gave the green light for digital signage at "The Hub," the city's new multimodal transit facility. Avail Technologies was selected to complete the work, which will cost the city $376 thousand.
Other projects approved will test and inspect large water pipelines. One of those serves the southeast portion of Wichita and Derby, along with another connection between the Northwest Water Treatment facility and Hess Pump Station.
