Cargill has donated turkeys to the Kansas Food Bank, supporting families in need during the holidays.

The food bank received 30,000 packages of thighs and breasts to distribute to 85 counties across the state.

Cargill also donated $150,000 to help strengthen local meal programs, and will match up to $100,000 for the Food Bank’s Food for Kids weekend backpack program.

Brian Walker said food insecurity has been on the rise for years.

“We’ve had these outrageous numbers, and this is a gift that’s going to help us put this meal on the table for families that are struggling during the holidays, but also help us as we go throughout the year, to help families that are really struggling,” Walker said.

This is the 19th consecutive year Cargill has provided holiday turkeys to the food bank.

On National Philanthropy Day on Wednesday, Ted Woodward from 98.7 & 1330 KNSS was the co-emcee for the annual luncheon in Wichita at Mark Arts, hosted by the AFP, Kansas Heartland Chapter. Cargill Cares was honored as the Outstanding Foundation.

Over the years, Cargill Cares has donated millions of dollars to support food security, youth mentoring, and community development, not only in Wichita, but nationally and internationally.

The company actively encourages its employees to give back, providing opportunities for staff to volunteer, including serving as Bigs in the Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters program, supporting the Kansas Food Bank, YMCA, Exploration Place, HumanKind Ministries, United Way of the Plains, Wichita Public Schools, WSU Tech, and Wichita State University.
