A two-alarm fire prompted a heavy emergency response to the Cargill plant in the north part of Wichita, north of 13th & Mosley (west of Washington).

The initial emergency call was made a little after 9:00 p.m., and arriving crews found the scene of heavy smoke.

Fire investigators determined it was a large soybean dryer on fire.

The smoke and heat conditions necessitated an aerial attack from outside and above by firefighters.

After about three hours, crews were said to have the fire under control, and additional units have remained in the area on Tuesday to monitor the remains of the blaze.
