Two dead after police chase leads to head-on crash near Derby

Two people are dead after a suspect crashed head-on into their vehicle during a police chase.

It began around 2:45 Sunday afternoon, when a vehicle was stolen from the Dollar General in Andover. An Andover Police officer spotted the stolen vehicle and tried to stop it but instead a chase ensued.

The Kansas Highway Patrol joined in the pursuit but broke it off after the suspect headed south of Greenwich and 47th St. S.

The suspect continued on to 63rd St. S. After hitting a guardrail and losing a tire, he continued west towards Derby. The suspect's vehicle crossed the centerline, striking one vehicle before the head-on collision occurred.

The victims are a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman. The suspect, a 19-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
