Two people are dead after a crash in Jefferson County. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol it happened just before 2:30 AM Saturday on K-4 just a few miles northeast of Topeka. A southbound SUV carrying 4 passengers turned to go into a private drive when it was struck by a northbound motorcycle in the rear passenger door.
The motorcycle rider, 27-year-old Joseph Platt of Meriden, was pronounced dead at the scene. One of the SUV passengers, 22-year-old Cameron Meinholdt of Topeka, was also pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger was taken to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka with serious injuries. The other 2 passengers in the SUV were uninjured.
