Two dead in Kansas Turnpike crash

Two people are dead, including a Wichita woman, after a crash on the Kansas Turnpike Saturday afternoon north of Emporia.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened at 3:10pm, in the south bound lanes of the Turnpike at mile marker 134.4 in Lyon County. A SUV rear-ended a semi-truck and came to rest after spinning out.

The driver, Guerrero Moreno, Jr., 44, of Wichita, had only minor injuries but a passenger, Erin Moreno, 42, of Wichita, died at Newman Regional Medical Center in Emporia. Another passenger, Anthony Barrera died at the scene.

Three other juveniles in the SUV were injured. The driver of the semi was not hurt.

The turnpike was closed in both directions for several hours after the crash.
