Unemployment rate down for Kansas, Wichita area

Preliminary estimates reported by the Kansas Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics show a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.7 percent in March. This was a decrease from 3.8 percent in February and an increase from 3.2 percent in March 2020.

Kansas added over 12,000 jobs in March, with eight of the major sectors contributing to that growth. The Wichita area jobless rate fell slightly to 5.3 percent in March, from 5.4 percent in February. Just over 304-thousand workers were on the job in the area including Butler, Harvey, Kingman, Sumner, and Sedgwick Counties.
