An 81-year-old man has died, after he was critically injured during a fire south of Haysville on Wednesday.
The fire was in a mobile home in the 8200 block of S. Berniece Drive, to the southwest of 79th Street South & Broadway.
The man’s son also lives on the property and discovered the fire; he called 911 around 9:45 a.m.
Sedgwick County Fire Department crews arrived and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the home. They also found the victim, who was was rushed to the hospital but died from his injuries.
As firefighters fought the fire, the mobile home’s floor gave out, causing some issues, but they got the fire out.
The Wichita, Derby, and McConnell Air Force Base fire departments also responded to the fire.
