Wichita Vice Mayor Maggie Ballard says a heat study from NASA showed 17 heat islands in the city, and that's where tress are being planted. Last week students from Southeast High School planted more than 10,500 seedlings in Linwood Park.
Ballard says the Ark River is planned for Saturday from 9 am until noon, with volunteers meeting at First and Waco. Ballard says over the past 20 years, volunteers have removed 1.6 tons of trash from the Arkansas River.
Ballard tells KNSS News at Tuesday's workshop, the City Council will discuss economic development and animal control.
