Downtown Wichita businesses are showing off their patriotic spirit as part of a new window decorating contest celebrating America's 250th anniversary.

The "Fun for the Fourth" Window Decorating Contest invites residents and visitors to explore downtown from June 28 through July 11, viewing festive storefront displays and voting for their favorites. The contest features decorations highlighting patriotic themes, Wichita pride, and creative interpretations of the nation's milestone anniversary.

The public can vote once per day by scanning QR codes displayed at participating businesses or by visiting the online voting page. The three displays receiving the most votes will earn cash prizes of $500 for first place, $250 for second and $100 for third. Winners will be announced July 13.

More than a dozen downtown businesses are participating, including retailers, restaurants, museums, hotels, and other local organizations. Organizers say the contest is designed to encourage people to explore downtown, support local businesses and celebrate the nation's semiquincentennial in a fun and creative way.
