Kansas residents have until the end of today, July 14, to register to vote or update their voter registration ahead of the state's Aug. 4 primary election. The deadline also applies to voters who need to update their name or address before casting a ballot.
Advance voting begins July 15, when mail ballots will start being sent to voters who requested them. Counties may also begin in-person advance voting, though hours and locations vary by county.
The primary ballot includes races for governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, state legislative seats, and other offices. Kansas uses partisan primaries, meaning voters generally must be affiliated with a political party to participate in that party's primary. Unaffiliated voters can choose a party affiliation at the polls on Election Day to vote in a party's primary.
Polls across Kansas will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Primary Election Day, Aug. 4. Election officials encourage voters to verify their registration status, polling place, and sample ballot before heading to the polls.
