The Kansas Association of Broadcasters has announced its 2026 Hall of Fame inductees, including longtime Wichita broadcaster Ted Woodward of KNSS Radio.
The KAB Hall of Fame Award is the organization’s highest honor and recognizes individuals whose careers, leadership and contributions have made a lasting impact on broadcasting in Kansas and beyond.
Woodward, a Wichita native and Kapaun Mount Carmel High School graduate, attended the University of Notre Dame, where he sang in the Notre Dame Glee Club and worked in the university’s Sports Information Department.
He spent five years as a sports writer for The Wichita Eagle before joining KNSS radio in 1995. Over the years, Woodward has handled sportscasts, newscasts and entertainment reports.
In 2017, Woodward and fellow KAB Hall of Famer Steve McIntosh received the national Marconi Award for Outstanding Talent in a medium-size market. Their program, “Steve and Ted in the Morning,” was a staple of KNSS for 28 years.
Woodward’s familiar “Ted, the Sports Head” persona also continues on KFH Radio, where he has been a fixture for more than 30 years.
His broadcasting career extends well beyond radio. Woodward currently serves as the public-address announcer for Wichita State men’s basketball. He has spent 37 years as the PA announcer for Shocker baseball and 36 years with Wichita State volleyball. He also served for 15 years as the official scorekeeper for Wichita’s Double-A baseball team, the Wichita Wranglers.
Woodward has also been involved in Wichita’s annual “Gridiron” show for 30 years as a performer and writer. The event raises money for journalism scholarships for Kansas students.
Away from sports and broadcasting, Woodward has performed in several Wichita musical productions, including “Tommy,” “Urinetown,” “The Full Monty,” “Hello, Dolly!,” “The Sound of Music,” “Annie” and “Barnum.”
Woodward and the other 2026 KAB Hall of Fame inductees will be honored during the KAB Hall of Fame Dinner on Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Wichita Marriott.
