Construction renovations on the Amidon bridge in the northwest part of Wichita is going to be finished months ahead of its original schedule.
Nearly 16,000 drivers used the nearly 60-year-old bridge daily, south of 21st & Amidon; it's been closed for a year. However, the city says people may begin driving on the bridge as early as next week.
It’s been a long year for people in the Riverside neighborhood who rely on the bridge. Originally, construction was scheduled to take a year-and-a-half. However, there were few weather delays, and some other conditions put the project ahead of schedule.
The city plans to hold a public ribbon-cutting event and open the road next week on Nov. 1.
