A Kansas Department of Labor report shows a seasonally adjusted state unemployment rate of 3.3% in September. This is unchanged from 3.3% in August and an increase from 2.6% in September 2023. Nonfarm payroll employment increased by 27-hundred from August.
The Wichita metropolitan statistical area jobless rate was 3.5% in September, down from 4.1% in August, and up from 2.7% in September of 2023. Total employment in the Wichita MSA stood at just under 315-thousand in September. The Wichita MSA includes Sedgwick, Sumner, Butler, Harvey, and Kingman counties.
