At Monday night’s Wichita Board of Education meeting funds were approved to help fill special education openings.
The school board approved spending $340,000 for nearly 70 teachers and staff to receive special education certification.
Asst. Superintendent for student support services, Dr. Vince Evans told the board it fills a big need for the district. "(I'm), very proud of this program. It's a state wide challenge to recruit special education teachers right now," Evans said.
Funding was numinously approved. Teachers or staff will now be able to have tuition and books funds to become certified to teach special education.
The program also guarantees teachers will teach special education classes in the district for the next three years.
