The Wichita City Council has approved a parking plan that will impact the downtown and Old Town areas but exclude Delano.
Parking will cost $1/hour between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The city says they will have a net gain of $450 thousand in Year One, to be invested in future capital expenses.
Mayor Lily Wu was one of two no votes on the plan. She appreciated the council taking action but feels the city wasn't completely upfront with the community. Council member Mike Hoheisel also voted no.
The council will likely vote on an amended agreement in January with The CarPark, a private company who will manage and enforce the plan. The city will purchase and install parking meters with a goal of rolling out the plan this coming summer.
