The city plans to hire two program specialists to oversee the plan and coordinate activities. In addition, the Mayor and city council will appoint seven people to a review board.

The Wichita Housing Authority has 352 properties. They plan to sell some that are scattered around the city while renovating others that are located in clusters. The plan would also help with down payment assistance and other supportive services to make the homes more affordable. City officials say these steps combined would help uplift entire neighborhoods.

District 1 Council member Brandon Johnson pointed to the area between 9th and 13th Streets and Hillside and Grove that has seen significant change in recent years.

The city will get feedback at District Advisory Boards and Neighborhood Association meetings, which will help direct their next steps.

City officials say while home ownership is important, they cannot forget about renters who aren't quite ready to own.
