The Wichita City Council discussed the one percent sales tax special election coming in March.
City Manager Dennis Marstall said the goal of the meeting was to educate and not advocate.
It provided an opportunity for city leaders to discuss the election in more detail, including how the city would use sales tax proceeds for the five initiatives listed on the ballot. They include public safety, property tax relief, homeless and housing services, revitalization of Century II and an upgraded and expanded convention center and a proposed, new downtown public performing arts center.
The council discussed proposed guardrails, funding priorities and an implementation plan. They also heard from Wichita citizens and community leaders.
The city will hold a town hall on the sales tax question in February, at a date and time to be determined later.
