The Wichita City Council approved a $600 thousand project to replace aging water meters across the city.

The city is replacing the old turbine style technology with new ultrasonic ones, which measure water flow more accurately.

This comes a day after the city renewed their water conservation rebate program for 2026, with a $125 thousand allocation. The city encourages customers to purchase water-saving devices like irrigation controllers, rain barrels and water-efficient appliances.

New this year is a rebate for the purchase of drought-tolerant grasses and shrubs.

Customers may receive up to a $100 rebate, issued in the form of credit to their water account.
