At Tuesday's meeting, the Wichita city Council will discuss spending more than six million dollars on a new pickleball complex at South Lake Park on south Meridian. Mayor Brandon Whipple explains the importance of pickleball, saying pickleball is "the next big thing and there's a ton of enthusiasm about pickleball." He says there are tournaments that can draw visitors to the community, which means taking "a more economic development approach to this." Whipple says the City is looking at constructing 24 pickleball courts on south Meridian.
The City Council will also discuss spending $300,000 to improve K-9 Rooster Dog Park on south Meridian. Whipple says "people want more safe areas to bring their dogs and socialize their dogs with other dogs," and meet dog owners.
Whipple commented during Mondays with the Mayor on the Steve and Ted in the Morning Show, on KNSS.
