In the days before cell phones, postcards used to be a premiere way to communicate while away from home. They were quick, inexpensive, and had a picture included.
In fact, 110 years ago, Wichita was a bit of a postcard mecca.
In the summer of 1911, Wichita received the largest shipment of postcards ever consigned to one dealer in this section of the country; a shipment of 350,000 Wichita postcards was sent to the Post Card Shop in the Schweiter Building at Douglas & Main downtown.
The Post Card Shop apparently was the only exclusive postcard emporium in the state of Kansas.
These postcards were sold at one cent each.
When's the last you time you sent or received a postcard?
