Police arrested a 41-year-old Wichita man on numerous charges Friday night.
Pearl James Haynes IV was arrested on two counts of Aggravated Assault of a law-enforcement officer, criminal damage to property and domestic violence, robbery, evade and elude, DUI, resisting arrest, and battery of a law-enforcement officer stemming from a domestic violence and robbery investigation.
At approximately 9:20 p.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to a domestic violence with weapon call in the 6700 block of West Par Lane involving Haynes and a 34-year-old woman. She told police that Haynes showed up at her apartment intoxicated and began breaking several items inside. Officers then saw Haynes flee from the front of the apartment and gave chase on foot. Haynes jumped a privacy fence and once he got over it, officers heard eight gunshots coming from where the suspect landed. The officers immediately took cover and waited for more officers to arrive.
A short time later, officers and other law enforcement agencies began to provide security around the area where Haynes was last seen, using an abundance of precaution due to the number of rounds fired.
At approximately 11:15 p.m., a resident in the 1300 block of South Westfield called 911 and stated Haynes was at their residence banging on the door saying he was on the run from the police.
Unmarked officers made their way to the Westfield location and witnessed Haynes flee on an ATV. A brief pursuit ensued, with Haynes overturning the ATV in the 200 block of South Byron Ct. He fled the scene and would be taken into custody in the 300 block of South Keith.
Wichita Police say these incidents are dangerous not only to the community but the officers making the arrests. They added that the victim at Par Lane and Westfield are known to Haynes.
This case will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office in the coming weeks.
