Wichita mayor says Spirit and union negotiating in "good faith"

A federal mediator is part of the bargaining team, as contract talks continue between Spirit AeroSystems and the machinists union. Union members turned down the first offer last week from Wichita's largest employer. Mayor Brandon Whipple tells KNSS News he thinks both sides are negotiating "in good faith". He says the common goal is to get back to work, and his role is to do anything he can "to facilitate that process moving forward". Whipple says he thinks everyone "is on the same page, we're just working out the details".

At Tuesday's meeting, the Wichita City Council will hear a report on the fire department. Mayor Whipple says this is part of the budget-writing process, and the goal is to make sure firefighters have the best equipment possible.

Whipple commented during the Steve and Ted in the Morning Show on KNSS.
