Registered Nurses at two Wichita hospitals have set the date for a one-day strike later this month.

The nurses at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis and St. Joseph hospitals will hold a strike on Tuesday, June 27.

The union, Nurses United says the strike is to protest what they call, the hospitals refusal to address its staffing crisis.

They are required to give hospital officials at least ten days advance notice, to allow for alternative plans to be put in place for patient care.

In a statement, hospital officials said that they are well prepared to remain open, and care for their patients, during this work stoppage event.

Meanwhile, multiple bargaining secessions remain scheduled through the end of August.
