Two Wichita Police officers are recovering after they were shot in south Wichita early this morning.
It happened just after 1 a.m. at the Shores Apartments near Pawnee and Broadway. The officers were checking on a man who was reportedly involved in a felony domestic violence case on Friday. After the officers were allowed inside the suspect's apartment, a struggle ensued.
The suspect fired a gun several times at the officers, who were both struck, but were able to flee the apartment. The officers were transported to the hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Wichita SWAT team members were called to the scene, but police say the suspect was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the apartment a few hours later. No one else was injured.
